Grand Finale - Classical Weekend 2023
Oval Hall | Sheffield City Hall
“It is a bold piece, of extremely powerful construction. The final climax is colossal” - Gustav Mahler (1860-1911)
Huge forces unite in the Steel City in March 2023 to adventure into the electrifying world of Gustav Mahler’s Second Symphony. A work that contemplates the meaning of life and death through a blaze of transcendence that will shake the roof of the Oval Hall, this symphony offers the ultimate concert experience.
Performed by over 300 Sheffield musicians, including two award-winning soloists, Anna Harvey and Ella Taylor, the event will be a unique Sheffield spectacle. For the first time in history the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallam Sinfonia, Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus, and Hallam Choral Society are combining forces for one night only.
Led by conductor George Morton, let us take you on a whirlwind adventure of music that could quite literally change your life.
